Colour, Community, and Connection: Movement Five Welcomes Local Spray Paint Artist Samuel Hall

Movement Five brought a splash of colour to the Illawarra this month as we welcome renowned local artist Samuel Hall to lead a live art workshop with our community.

If you’ve ever walked past a striking spray-painted mural around the Illawarra and stopped to take a second look, there’s a good chance Sam was behind it. Widely regarded as one of the region’s most talented spray paint artists, Sam has built a name for himself not just through his technical skill, but through the energy and personality he brings to every piece – vibrant, expressive, and unmistakably his own.

That same energy is exactly why we couldn’t wait to bring him into the Movement Five fold. At our core, we’re about creating opportunities for young people to try new things, build confidence, and connect with others in a way that feels genuine and fun and there’s no better example of that than a room full of creative minds, good vibes, and cans of spray paint.

Friday’s workshop wasn’t about art for art’s sake, either. The designs created on the day formed the basis of our spring client t-shirts – meaning every NDIS participant will get to see their creativity worn and celebrated by the wider Movement Five community for the season ahead. It’s a fitting way to bring people together: shared creation, shared ownership, and a shared sense of pride in something made collectively.

This is very much in keeping with what we do at Movement Five. As a disability provider supporting young people aged 10 to 60 across Wollongong, the Illawarra, and Shoalhaven, our programs are built around helping participants build independence, form genuine friendships, and feel truly connected to their community. Days like Friday, full of colour, creativity, and collaboration, are a perfect reflection of that mission in action.
